*Well now, isn’t this interesting. According to TMZ, the officer who busted rapper/actor T.I. back in May outside the guard shack of his gated community talked major trash about the rapper and his level of fame … and it was all captured on the officer’s body cam.

The footage was obtained from the Henry County officer who busted T.I. for public drunkenness and simple assault of the security guard. The video shows the officer talking to the guard, who had refused to let T.I. enter when he didn’t have his key.

The guard’s supervisor tells the cop, “That’s T.I., the rapper.” The cop repsonds, “He thinks his s**t don’t stink” and then laughs. The supervisor agreed with the officer.

TMZ broke the story, T.I. says the guard — who was eventually fired over the incident — had also cursed out Tiny when she called to say it was okay to let her husband enter their gated community.

T.I. was heated about the arrest and argued with cops after they took him into custody. He’s been charged with 3 misdemeanors … but most likely won’t face any jail time if convicted.

T.I.’s attorney, Steve Sadow, was contacted about the about the body cam footage, however, he declined to comment.

Here’s more on the aftermath of T.I.’s arrest …

He has pleaded not guilty in the criminal case stemming from his run-in with a security guard outside his gated community in Georgia.

T.I., also known as “Tip,” filed the documents last week, according to The Blast. He reportedly requested that his case go to trial, believing he can win the case if a jury hears the full story.

He’s also sought to dismiss all three charges, and argues that there was no “true threat” that fits the bill to warrant prosecution.

*NEW YORK –– Slick Rick, hip-hop’s greatest storyteller, and The Black Eyed Peas – whose crossover over appeal has generated sales of more than 40 million units worldwide – share a new song and video, “Constant Part 1 & 2,” released globally today across all DSPs. Rick, who celebrates the 30th anniversary of his landmark The Great Adventures of Slick Rick in November, appears in the video.

“Constant Part 1 & 2” is the fourth Black Eyed Peas (sans Fergie) single this year. Directed by will.i.am and Ernst Weber, the clip marks the first Slick Rick-Black Eyes Peas collaboration. In the past, the band sampled the emcee’s song “The Ruler’s Back” for (2005’s “Don’t Lie,” as well as “Children’s Story (2010’s “The Beginning) and “The Show” (2015’s “Yesterday”). “Constant” interpolates a line from Rick’s classic “La-di-da-di,” and a conscious message is delivered via warm, jazzy boom-bap and hip-house.

Earlier this year Kanye West and Nas exchanged verses about police brutality over Rick’s four-word sample from “Children’s Story,” (“Cops shot the kid…”), which has become the most sampled song in hip-hop history.

*Aretha Franklin’s pre-funeral concert in Detroit took place last night and Patti LaBelle gave an incredibly moving performance.

LaBelle sang her hit song “You Are My Friend,” and belted what turned out to be one of the best tributes of the night. Other acts including The Four Tops and Johnny Gill also hit the stage at Chene Park Amphitheatre.

As we reported, 23 acts were originally slated to perform Thursday, including big names like the Four Tops, Gladys Knight, Johnny Gill, Ron Isley and lots of others. Gladys’ rep later clarified she wouldn’t be performing, but would be in attendance.

Source: https://www.eurweb.com/2018/08/bow-wow-breakdown-rapper-attacks-crew-camera-equipment-at-tv-shoot/

*Oh wow, we can only wonder what set Bow Wow off last night. According to TMZ, the rapper and unemployed actor went left while shooting a segment for “Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta.” He attacked his camera crew and damaged thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

Production sources say a shoot for “Growing Up Hip Hop” was going down Thursday night at the Westside Cultural Arts Center when he allegedly snapped. The report says Bow Wow shifted from calm cool and collected to a person no one recognized … and it’s unclear why.

Sources say in a fit of rage, Bow Wow started shattering gear … busting three cameras in the process. The rapper also attacked anyone who tried to step in and stop him.

Yes, cops were called to the scene, but no word yet if anyone was arrested.

The event at the Cultural Arts Center was a party for Da Brat — who recently got off of probation — we’re told she may have been involved in the melee too.

HipHopDX reports that acording to production sources, the apparent meltdown took place at Atlanta’s Westside Cultural Arts Center during an Off Probation Party for Da Brat (who arrived in inmate garb and handcuffed!).

By the way, the rapper has a previous public breakdown in his recent past.

Just about a month ago, he threatened to quit his career to work at GameStop. Bow Wow then revealed he was “cash apping all my money away today” for those who want “free money.”

*Earlier (on 08-31-18), EURweb is provided live coverage of Aretha Franklin‘s home going services at Greater Grace Temple in her hometown of Detroit.

Now, you can watch it again. In its entirety.

Speakers at her services included former President Bill Clinton, Rev. Jesse Jackson and the legendary Smokey Robinson.

Her services included performances by stars as Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill and Jennifer Hudson and Ariana Grande (see below). Franklin handpicked Hudson to play her in an upcoming biopic. Faith Hill performed a duet with Franklin for 2011’s “A Woman Falling Out of Love.” And Stevie Wonder, a dear friend of Franklin’s for decades, was among the final guests to visit her before she died of pancreatic cancer on Aug. 16.

Source: https://www.eurweb.com/2018/09/gladys-knight-clarifies-she-doesnt-have-cancer-aretha-franklin-had/

*It was incorrectly reported by several media outlets that Gladys Knight has the same kind of cancer that Aretha Franklin succumbed to, pancreatic cancer. However, the singer’s spokesperson set the record straight with a statement to the Detroit Free Press.

“She’s healthy. Someone must have misinterpreted,” said Javier Delgado, a publicist with JDS PR, which represents the onetime Motown star.

The issue regarding Knight’s health started trending online after the 74-year-old singer spoke to reporters about Franklin before entering Detroit’s Greater Grace Temple for Friday’s funeral.

Knight talked about the last time she had spoken to her “sister” Franklin while staying at the same hotel:

“So we got to talking and everything, and at that time we shared the fact that we had the same disease,” said Knight. She did not elaborate and that’s what started the speculation. This is another instance that shows how words matter.

Later, Knight’s publicist, Jay Schwartz, put out a statement from Knight explaining the earlier comment.

“I’d like to clarify that Aretha and I discussed both of us having cancer, mine was stage 1 breast cancer and hers was pancreatic. Due to early detection, I am cancer free and grateful for that. It is unfortunate that on a day we should be celebrating Aretha’s life and massive contribution to our world, a reporter who did not relay accurate information has missed the message. I send my love to the entire Franklin family and my gratitude to them for sharing such an extraordinary person with us.”

USA Today notes that Knight was an unannounced addition to the funeral proceedings, and performed two songs near the end of the services: “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”

*He’s TMZs self-proclaimed resident Moor.

And this week he launched a new podcast on SoundCloud.

“The Red Pill” with Van Lathan confronts the brutal reality of truth without social media noise or mainstream bias. Episode one features his buddy Taye Diggs divulging deets about salty Black women and why he’s confused about swearing off White women.

Van Lathan: The entire time you were coming up [in Hollywood] you were dating or married to Idina Menzel. And I remember the moment my mother realize your wife was white. She saw a picture and said, ‘that’s his wife?!…Oh!…’

When you go from being the love interest of people like Angela Bassett and Sanaa Lathan…did that impact your career?

Taye Diggs: I don’t know. I would like to think it didn’t.

VL: Did you feel like Black women were salty?

TD: Yes, but I don’t think it got in the way of anything. Although, to this day I don’t read Instagram, Twitter or what people post. I always felt fully supported career-wise but when it came to my social life people always made assumptions…

These days there’s no excuse so I have no time for it …

VL: Because you’re dating a black lady (Amanza Smith Brown) now…

TD: Uh, yes. She’s mixed.

When I was 13, I was reading a magazine and there was a picture of a Black woman and I said, ‘oh she’s pretty, I want to marry her.’ And my mom said, ‘oh honey, you’re going to marry a White woman. It hurt my feelings but she was right. To this day, whether I’m out at the club or whatever I still get, ‘I thought you only liked white girls?’
It’s been a life lesson of realizing you can’t kowtow…People didn’t know me. People didn’t understand me. It’s part of what comes with this business. A certain side of you is seen and you kind of have to accept the judgments that come with the business. It took me a minute to not be offended or feel the need to justify things. Because at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how many times I explain myself there is always going to be somebody talking.

Source: https://www.eurweb.com/2018/03/lil-wayne-seeks-court-sanction-birdman-targets-mogul-new-track-vizine-listen/

*Lil Wayne is reportedly demanding that a judge sanction Birdman for allegedly refusing to turn over documents relating to Nicki Minaj and Drake in his $50 million lawsuit against the mogul’s Cash Money Records.

The suit sought to have his record deal voided over non-payment. He accused the label of owing him tens of millions, including an $8 million advance for “Tha Carter V,” plus $2 million once the album was finished.

On Feb. 21, Wayne filed a motion to compel production of documents in the ongoing legal battle. According to The Blast, Wayne accuses Birdman of misleading the court by pretending to have turned over all documents in their possession. Weezy says Cash Money produced 121,000 pages of documents but calls them mostly tedious accounting reports prepared by Cash Money’s parent company Universal Music.

The rapper claims that Cash Money has earned over $200 million in cash flow, but has no accounting records, no general ledger, no bank account records and no tax returns at all.

Wayne says his legal team has demanded all records pertaining to Nicki and Drake, but Cash Money claims to have no documents available, despite Nicki releasing albums with the company since 2011.

Weezy’s motion also accuses Cash Money of not turning over records of payments the label made to Birdman and his brother, Ronald Williams. Further, he says they refuse to hand over all tax returns from 2011. He says, “Unless Cash Money admits to criminal failure to file tax returns for 2011 to present, Cash Money must produce these returns.”

The judge has yet to rule on the motion.

In the meantime, Wayne has dropped the new track “Vizine,” birthed from a music/shoe partnership with clothing brand Ethika.

Wayne is one of many rappers on Ethika’s “RGB Mixtape 2,” the follow-up to the first tape released in February 2017 featuring Meek Mill, Lil Durk, 21 Savage and others. According to Billboard, each song comes with an artist’s signature pair of Ethika sneakers.

Source: https://www.eurweb.com/2018/03/keiynan-lonsdale-talks-love-simon-and-his-journey-as-a-queer-man/

*“Everyone deserves a great love story.” That’s the line the new film “Love, Simon” has coined to send the message that no matter who and how you love, your love is just legitimate as the next.

“Love, Simon” tells the story of a high school boy named Simon who is struggling with telling his friends and family he’s gay, and in the midst of it falls in love with an anonymous classmate online. That online classmate is named Bram and is played by actor Keiynan Lonsdale.

“The subject matter was something I was something I was instantly drawn to for personal reasons because I had been through similar situations. Even if I hadn’t got through it I hoped that I would be just as passionate. But yeah, as soon I as I got the email for the audition I was kinda like whoah, this hasn’t even been made yet?”

Bram is just like any other kid struggling with telling the world that’s gay. Like Bram, Keiynan shares a similar story as he just recently came out to the world himself. However he kept his secret from his cast until the film was finished and came out during the “Love, Simon” wrap party.

“I was so nervous about it, and I felt like really disappointed in myself. I thought I’d made a lot of progress. But the fact that I was in such a situation with a gay director with a gay, with this gay love story. Couldn’t be more accepting, it couldn’t be a better film situation to be on. And here these characters are, and we’re all fighting for like people to embrace themselves and I was like I’m not even fully embracing myself,” said Lonsdale.

While Lonsdale says he too struggled with coming out he advises others who share the same the struggle to speak your truth – regardless of what the reaction will be. Especially when it comes to your loved ones.

“I think it’s important for kids to know that even if someone reacted poorly, they reacted poorly because they love you. And it’s not an ideal situation but just understanding not to take it personal and not to place your worth in that reaction because more often than not they come around because they can’t help but love you. They start see that you’re exactly the same person – – even if it’s not an instantly beautiful response it’s usually because they don’t know what to do they’re lost as well,” said Lonsdale.

Source: https://www.eurweb.com/2018/06/enjoy-this-weekend-with-a-jackie-wilson-tribute-brazilian-music-in-beverly-hills/

*This Sunday, June 24, Broadway star Chester Gregory (“Hairspray,” “Tarzan,” and “Dreamgirls”) will bring the legendary singer Jackie Wilson to life on the stage at the popular nightclub The Sorting Room. The event is part of the Summer Sessions at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills.

In the 1950s, ’60s and early 70s, Wilson topped the music charts with the hits “To Be Loved,” “Lonely Teardrops” “Night,” “Baby Workout,” and “Higher and Higher.” “Mr. Excitement’s” brand of heartfelt lyrics sung with untold emotion earned him audiences from around the world.

Gregory has performed and produced the traveling “The Eve of Jackie: A Tribute to Jackie Wilson” since 2013 and knows the audience will appreciate what he is throwing down.

“It’s an intimate look at the final days of Jackie Wilson’s career,” Gregory told the EUR in a recent phone interview. “The show actually takes place in September of 1975 at the tail end of his comeback tour. It’s based off real events even though the night (of my show) is fictional.”

What is true is that Wilson collapsed onstage (conflicting reports cite a heart attack or stroke) on September 29, 1975 while performing at a nightclub in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He went into a coma and never recovered. Eight years later, on January 21, 1984, Wilson died at the age of 49. With his show, Gregory wanted to reimagine what could have happened before the night Wilson collapsed onstage.

“What sort of gave me the idea a while back when performing was a woman came up to me and said, ‘Don’t go to Cherry Hill,” Gregory recounted. “That was kind of eerie and stayed with me for years. If someone had warned him not to do that final concert, maybe things would have gone differently. So, that gave me the idea to say let’s go back to the night before he died and see how he is in that point in his career.”

Gregory added that, “Jackie Wilson deserves just as much recognition as Elvis Presley. Elvis stole a lot of elements from Jackie. A lot of people don’t know how his legacy still doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.”

The Gary, Indiana native kicked off playing Jackie Wilson shortly after graduating from college. He nabbed the lead role in the Chicago’s Black Ensemble Theatre production about the legendary singer. After a great reception, he was on his way to sold out shows and rave reviews. One of his most exciting performances was in 2003 when he rocked Wilson at a hometown event for another Gary native – Michael Jackson. Gregory knew right away, what he would not perform.

“I didn’t want to perform a Michael Jackson song for Michael Jackson,” said Gregory. “So, I just sang ‘Lonely Teardrops.’ I said, ‘Just like how Jackie inspired you, you inspired me.’ He loved it and gave me a standing ovation.”

Also playing at The Sorting Room this weekend, (Friday, June 22nd), is singer/songwriter Kandace Lindsey, known for haunting vocals coupled with the soul of Latin rhythms. Here is what audiences can expect from her.

“They can expect an exciting show of eclectic music,“ said Lindsey also in an EUR phone interview. “I call it world Brazilian soul because most of my band is Brazilian. Also, I sing in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. They can expect to dance. It’s feel good music.”

Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Lindsey listened to the likes of Aretha Franklin and Al Green at home. With the absence of black artists on the radio, she gravitated toward Mexican and Cuban music. Her appreciation for different types of music led her to tour with Marc Anthony (1999-2008) and his then wife Jennifer Lopez (2004-2008). Working on both shows offered up two very different experiences for Lindsey.

“For Marc’s show, it’s based solely on the music,” Lindsey said. “There are more musicians. Huge percussion and horn sections. I was singing and dancing with him. It was more focused on the band. With Jennifer, the focus is on her and she has separate dancers and a separate band. She had videos and pyrotechnics. They were two very different shows.”

Touring all over the world with two powerhouse artists for Lindsey, “Was a huge commitment. You work with amazing artists, musicians from all over – Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. I got do what I loved to do.”

Recording over a decade, Lindsey has three albums along with a compilation release under her belt. In 2016, her single, “When I Open My Eyes” found its way on the finale of the popular television series “Pretty Little Liars.” Lindsey, who is working on a new album, continues to write music for television and will be featured on the upcoming Netflix cartoon “Motown Magic.”

To recap, Kandace Lindsey will play at The Sorting Room on Friday, June 22. Chester Gregory as Jackie Wilson will play there on Sunday, June 24. Additionally, Kosine will be in the house on Wednesday, July 18th. The multi-platinum producer/songwriter, who is half of the LA-based production duo Da Internz, will introduce emerging songwriters at the ASCAP Urban Department presentation of “A Songwriters Showcase.”

Source: https://www.eurweb.com/2018/04/eurwebs-deborah-b-pryor-releases-new-book-arent-you-scared-lessons-from-a-lady-rideshare-driver-listen/

*EURweb senior editor DeBorah B. Pryor has announced the release of her highly anticipated book “AREN’T YOU SCARED? – Lessons from a Lady Rideshare Driver.” The book gives us a glimpse into the world of female rideshare drivers.  AREN’T YOU SCARED… was released on April 13 and is available via the author’s website at http://lessonsfromaladyridesharedriver.com and online via Amazon Kindle.

Pryor has done an excellent job penning her first nonfiction work. In just under 70 pages, AREN’T YOU SCARED… (ISBN Number 9781513634098-51299 print: 12.99 \ 978151363408-1999 eBook: 9.99) quickly proves itself as “the little book we never knew we needed, until it arrived!”

It captures the comical, incredible and to say the least, interesting, humanistic experiences Pryor is privy to daily. Despite occasionally asking herself “Did I really sign up for this?” the author shares how shocked she is to actually enjoy being an UBER driver, but more importantly, she’s a natural people person, making her a perfect host driver and often-times, sounding board, for the multitude of personalities she encounters each day.

Pryor says when she mentions the book, people ask if it is about all of the interesting people she meets; and it is, it just doesn’t stop there. It goes deeper because of who it was written for. Pryor, who has a background in communications and has taught classes at UCLA Extension, wants people to understand the “culture” of rideshare so she delves into how she handles difficult situations and challenging behaviorswhat she has learned about different cultures and races (including her own); how to “read” people and know when to talk or be quiet. And in a phrase she coined herself, she speaks about The Human Zone where her actual riders’ comments display the conversational

magic that happens in her UBER when people drop the facades behind race, religion, politics, and culture and speak from the heart.

Pryor admits, “We really do have more in common than we think.”

A poignant quote from one rider so touched by the conversation he had with his driver says…

“Typically I’m not one to talk a whole lot with my driver but the conversation I had with Deborah was insightful, inspiring and uplifting. Living in Los Angeles, like any modern metropolis, can be difficult and isolating, but its people like her that help remind us all of the inherent hope and potential for goodness within us all.”

Another rider talks about how he had left his keys in the car, and Pryor hunted him down in a restaurant before the night was over to return them. He called her “a life saver!”

“Being an Uber driver or driver for any rideshare service is nothing short of life altering,” Pryor writes.  “The people you meet and the conversations you share (and those you overhear); the moods you encounter, diverse personalities – not to mention cultures – can all serve as learning experiences if you let them,” adds Pryor, a Brooklyn native who talks about the pros and the cons of the business; along with some incredible highlights – such as the conversation behind her 16-minute drive with Paris Jackson, the 19-year-old daughter of the ‘King of Pop,’ and how she dreaded the moment the pretty actress and model asked the question all riders end up asking eventually…

“What kind of writing do you do?”

Knowing how much her dad, Michael Jackson, detested journalists, and not wanting to make Paris uncomfortable, Pryor writes her innermost thought at that moment was, “Kill me now.”

Visual Artist Knowledge Bennett displays a gallery of thought-provoking pieces

Visual artist Knowledge Bennett, owner of the new Know Contemporary Gallery in downtown Los Angeles, California opens a new show.

When artists make art they expose themselves to examination by others.  Even artists who create without emotion or connection to the individual pieces of art, such as an airbrush artist who produces one hundred of the same design over and over, daily, eventually there will be a piece of the artist personality laced inside of one of those designs.  A swirl on the end of the letters, his favorite ghosting effect. His essence will remain in the paint.

When the artist is motivated and pushed by external motivations, he will create the opportunity to display his art.  He will put his innermost into each specialized piece. Depending upon the contents of the artist, that essence might vary.

“I’ve always thought it to be the responsibility of the artist to help restore a degree of dignity, integrity, and sense of humanity,” explained visual artist Knowledge Bennett, owner of the new Know Contemporary Gallery in downtown Los Angeles, California.

Fusing contemporary images with large-scale screen printing, Bennett’s work makes statements concerning the realities of our current society, focused on the African American experience.

Stark, monotone images contrast against the sometimes vibrant colors of each piece.  Those colors clash like the truth springing from the montages of messages cut and pasted together with classic newspaper footage.  Nixon stares at the viewers, his multiple faces, some in the inverse, some standing taller than the crowd. Images of Obama in a Clint Eastwood stance multiply like the end of a drunken western brawl.  Madonna still loving Pac, follows you down the back hallways, and the leaders of nations are screaming curses, combined.

ELIZABETH, N.J. — Karen CivilAdidas, and Beats by Dre will team up for the 2nd Live Civil Day Basketball Tournament at the Mickey Walker Recreation Center (860 Anna St.) in Elizabeth, NJ. On June 29, 2017 at 3 p.m. A host of games for the neighborhood kids, a youth basketball tournament, and pure fun will be provided for the community of Elizabeth, N.J.

Two basketball organizations: S.O.A.R. Program and Rich Tabor’s New Life basketball team will go head-to-head in the highly-anticipated live basketball competition. Both teams will be gifted brand new customized basketball uniforms, sneakers, book bags from the global sportswear brand Adidas, and headphones from Beats by Dre. Civil will again aim to bridge the separation gap amongst the youth of Elizabeth by uniting different organizations that best represent Elizabeth’s melting pot.

Civil is dedicated to addressing and meeting the needs of underserved youth in the city she grew up in and is consistently doing so through her philanthropy.

”In efforts to encourage, uplift, and inspire, Live Civil Day was started to promote the youth to stay fit, active, and motivated. It serves as a tool to deliver the importance of health and wellness while bringing  the  community  together for a positive cause. As an Elizabeth Native, I have the responsibility to give back to my community. I want the students to know that they can create the life they dream of despite the odds that are stacked against them,” stated Karen Civil.

In 2017 during the inaugural Live Civil Day, Civil was joined by Jersey native, Kyle Anderson of the San Antonio Spurs. He shared the importance of staying healthy while giving insight on what it takes to be a NBA athlete. Over 200 youth were gifted Adidas apparel, sneakers, book bags and Beats by Dre, and 10 lucky ticket holders won brand new bikes. Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers participated in Live Civil Day by gifting 1 lucky teen with a signed jersey. Karen was surprisingly presented with the “Key to the City” of Elizabeth, NJ and recognized for the work she does in the community. This bestowed honor made Civil the fourth and youngest recipient in the last 25 years to receive the key.

“Live Civil Day is a day of positive giving back, to the youth and families throughout Elizabeth. I on behalf of the city of Elizabeth truly thank Karen for giving back to our residents. Karen’s belief in empowering communities across the country is welcomed home and she is paying it forward to the Elizabeth community that assisted in her success,” stated Patricia Perkins-Auguste, Council Woman-At-Large.
